3 Ways Acupuncture Can Give You a Leg Up on Your New Year’s Resolutions

It is easy to get carried away with New Year’s resolutions. It is only natural to set goals at the start of a new year. About 45% of adults in the U.S. make resolutions and after about six months, only about 50% keep them.

Acupuncture can help increase your chances of success this year. Here’s how:

1. It helps you discover the real reason behind your concern (and address it!)

You have chosen a goal or resolution to achieve. Now what? The best way to conquer your goals is to determine what is hiding behind your concern. Your acupuncturist can help you explore this.

For instance, if you have a cluttered home and you want to be more organized in the new year, an acupuncturist can ask you questions to discover the root. An acupuncturist can determine whether you’re disorganized because you’re afraid to let go which may involve your large intestine, or because you have trouble sorting what’s needed from junk which could involve your spleen, according to Chinese medicine. Once the acupuncturist has identified the real reason and root, an individualized treatment can be designed to address the systems in need.

2. It motivates you

When you feel sluggish or blah (for lack of a better word), acupuncture can help you get up and get going. In Chinese medicine, qi (or energy or life force) is circulating through our bodies and the goal is to keep it moving freely. When we feel unmotivated, often our qi is not moving smoothly which we call stagnation. Acupuncture can tap into your qi (your circulation) and send a message to your body and mind to move. This can give you the jump start you need to get off of the couch and do something about your resolutions.

3. It improves your outlook

Acupuncture can change your perception of life and change how we feel by strengthening the connection between your body and mind/spirit. When you receive acupuncture, your body releases “feel good” hormones. This increased sense of wellbeing can help you feel more productive and have a positive mindset toward your goals and resolutions.

With all that said, getting acupuncture requires working together with your practitioner as a team. It demands not simply an hour of your time but a commitment outside of your appointment to change and improve. After all, in order to make changes in your life, you must change your emotions and mindset. Although this may seem overwhelming at first, working with someone will help you navigate the way toward your goals and acupuncture can help get you there
